The first event from the anniversary of "The Fall of the Iron Curtain" series took place on May, 18th, in Virgil Madgearu Reading Room, organized by the European Documentation Centre within the Central Library of the Academy of Economic Studies from Bucharest. The event was sustained by George Ardeleanu and was called "N. Steinhardt and the Paradoxes of Freedom".
The participants at the event were : Mrs. Doina Şerban, from the European Commission Representation in Romania, professors Gh. Vlăsceanu, Ioan Opriţescu, Jean Nedelea, students, postgraduate students, librarians.
In the opening of the event, Prof. Liviu Bogdan Vlad, the national coordinator of the EDCs in Romania oulined the importance of the EDC by mentioning the fact that the 20th anniversary of the „Fall of the Iron Curtain” is marked in the ex-communist countries by a series of debates.
George Ardeleanu presented in brief Nicolae Steinhardt’s life and its drama in communism, outlining the moments in which he was imprisoned by the security forces.
